- who are you ! How old are you ? From where does this
name come, "5 Rue Christine" ? can you explain
the story of 5RC ? How many persons are involved in the label ?
i
am slim moon, i am 35. 5 rue christine was the address
of the last place in paris that gertrude stein lived. gertrude
stein was a great american writer who lived in paris from before time
of the first world war to after the second one. she invented a
whole new way of writing (in english) that was greatly influenced by
painting, she is my hero(ine). there are about 8 people involved
to some degree with the label. but i will explain in the next
question.

How is financed 5RC ? Which relations have 5RC with KILL
ROCK STARS ? How many copies do you press ? Can we know the average
sell of one record of 5RC ? Can you explain the way of 5RC to
sell the records ? (exchanges ?... etc...)

rock stars owns 5RC, i run both labels. i started KRS in 1991,
i started 5RC in 1997 because my musical taste had become so varied
that i thought it needed two labels to cover all of it. the
amount of copies we press varies a lot depending on the release.
the average 5rc record probably sells about 2500 copies, mostly through
record stores, and the internet.

- How can you explain the openminded spirit of 5RC ? Nowave, pop,
rock, electronic stuffs... Who "choose" the bands ?
the
bands are chosen by me and reflect my taste in music. although
i am 35 i believe it is important to always be searching for new sounds
and new ways of musical expression. some of my friends never
want to hear anything new, only things that sound like things they
already like, i think this is sad.

Where do you meet the bands ? if one band send his demo, you love
it, what must do the band itself to be apart of 5RC ? (tours...etc...)
: Can you choose a band who will not tour ???? Why ?
i
prefer bands who tour and work hard. i think bands who don't
tour and work hard should self-release their own CDs. some bands
who never tour are very good, but they should just make CDRs and sell
them at their shows. some of the 5RC bands were chosen because
i knew them, some because i saw their live show, and some from their
demo.

Can you talk about the music you listened to as a child & the
way you listen to it nowadays ?
as
i child i listened to bob dylan and the beatles mostly. i still
love them both. as a teenager i loved punk rock like the clash
and the gun club. with more and more time and more listening,
my tastes are always expanding.

- Are you playing in one band ? and if "no",
Do you think "musical creation" (as a musician...) is
not for you & that the way for you to be creative is to develop
a way for creative music ?
i
was in four or five different bands in my life, the last one for ten
years but right now i am not in a band. i like to make music
but i do not consider myself a musician, just an idea person.

- Are you working ? or 5RC is yr fulltime job ?

rock stars and 5 rue christine is my fulltime job, more than fulltime.

a word concerning the future projects of 5RC ?
right
now we have not signed any new bands, but hella and xiu xiu are planning
new albums

The label comes from the same town as K records, a big independant
compagny of Washington... have you this feeling of "independance"
with your label ? What do you think of the spirit of K ??? Have you
the same spirit to develop yr work ? Which concessions must do a label
to develop its activities ?

records helped me start my first label and i think our spirit and
motivations is much the same.

is not experimental. this is just good music that is not stuck
in the past.
